Confession

That's it. Screw sophistication, screw pretentions, and movies that leave you sitting in silence when they're over, contemplating something deep.

I am ready to declare that The Sound of Music is really one of my favorite movies of all time. And I don't care that it's cheesy. It was on TV again, and I just *had* to watch it. And it's lovely. Julie Andrews is so adorable. She just seems like Pure Good. And Christopher Plummer is... well, he is amazing. Those eyes. Those eyes were even hot in Star Trek 6 when he was General Chang. I just love that movie. Except for Climb Every Mountain. I can't ever watch that song because I hate it too much.

See, the movies that you're supposed to sit there and "think" about just don't agree with me. I really have to feel it for me to enjoy it. And even if it's predictable and cheesy and juvenile I *feel* The Sound of Music. Maybe because I've watched it ever since I was small. Which is not to say that I don't like movies that are both intelligent and quirky and make me feel something (c.f. Talk To Her, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, etc). But I am just not an intellectual when it comes to movies. If there's no catharsis, I'm out.

And so I'm going to start a meme and other people should do it too because I'm curious - What movies will you have to watch if you happen to find it on TV, even if you've seen it dozens of times? These are usually very cheesy movies. But not always.

For me, those movies are:

Dirty Dancing
Dead Poets Society
The Sound of Music
Shawshank Redemption
When Harry Met Sally
Awakenings (with Robin Williams and Robert de Niro; nothing to do w/the Kate Chopin story)
Sleepless in Seattle
Philadelphia

Ok, so, I can't think of any others right now, but I know there are some. Now it's your turn!

I guess this doesn't count newer movies that I really like, because they won't be on TV quite yet.
