I've been reading up on baby wearing after having been given a couple of different baby slings from kind people on Freecycle. Its something I'm really keen to try with the baby once she arrives as I've seen how difficult it can be to navigate prams and buggies around the shops. But then people keep scaremongering about the risks of having them in the hammock style carriers... what if she slips out they say, or she could suffocate...
This site has been really quite useful...
www.thebabywearer.com/index.php and it includes many links for patterns to make your own wraps and slings.
Researching this and other things that I feel are right for me and my baby (like baby led weaning) I've found lots of people have very vocal opinions on how they raised their children (especially the older generation). I get offered the opinion of 'if it was right for my kids then it should be right for you' and it really angers me at times. This is my baby and I'll do what I feel is right for me!
I keep getting asked about my plans to go back to work... of course I'm going back to work! I've taken 9 months off and whether I would like to stay at home after that time I really have to go back to work. Firstly because it is NHS Fife's policy that if you do not go back to work after Maternity Leave then you have to pay back the money they have given you over that time and secondly because we have a mortgage and it needs to be paid and to do that we both need to be working!
OK rant over! Normal service will be resumed soon :)
