Although we're almost half way through February already I never really feel like the New Year has ticked over until I start school again. That said, this time last year I didn't think that I would still be in school this year, I wanted to start working. However, the 'trendy crisis' (GFC) got in the way of that with all of my graduate program applications being rejected and leaving me wondering if working in the Australian Public Service was really worth all the effort and disappointment. I decided it wasn't really what I wanted to do in the long run and that I was just choosing the safe option because I hadn't taken the time to really think about what sort of PR career I wanted to pursue. Plus, by then end of my degree I felt as if there were gaps in our learning, that all we were being taught was to maintain the status quo and not challenge things or try to improve the industry. So, naturally, I'm now doing an Honours year and tutoring a first year class.

I feel like I'm finally on the path to the sort of career I want. Ultimately, I want to be an academic but to do that in this field you need to have worked in the industry for a few years and, ideally, a PhD. I've found that my passion is communicating for social change and I will be looking at an aspect of this in my thesis.

Have I mentioned also that Cam and I are taking salsa lessons? We have been for about a year now. We're not too bad at it either.

Here's hoping my hard work this year opens a lot of doors for me in the years to come. I've already got big plans for the first half of this year. Cam and I are going to Japan for 3 weeks in June and July, it should be fun. We also had a lovely holiday at the end of January in Sydney for the Big Day Out and Brisbane- just because we can.
