Went in for my meeting for th pre-doctoral program. Talked to the guy for a bit, slight interview: talked about my family, academic interests, etc. Got more information about the program I am applying for. Should I get into the program I will be awarded a few thousand dollars which I will use for GRE prep, to travel to schools, etc - basically for stuff that's to get me into grad school. Essentially the program couples me and Volkan together for my senior year to work side by side to get me into a school I want, get my GRE's set, etc. and it looks pretty good to have a mentor (lucky me, he also happens to be department chair)...The guy was happy to see that Pro Volkan volunteered to be my sponsor. We went over the super long application I got just about all squared away and he started asking me more about my academic past.
My past, which isn't the best, he said we can probably work around. There's a lot I have going for me. I told him I would work on everything and make sure to get it in on time and he said to use him to view my essays and stuff. That's nice of him. We spoke more on my relationship with Volkan (and Fleischer since he'd probably be a good guy, too.) He guy named dropped Kee because she'd mentored a few people at the school....then he gives the kicker.
If I am not chosen for the full pre-doctoral program, which is a CSU state wide program, then he is going to let me be in the program internally. This means that I will be in a different program within Channel Islands. Same thing, just on a smaller level with a smaller budget. If I don't get in the statewide program they will still give me money and run the program with me so long as I complete my full application by the deadline. So, it's a win-win situation, the only difference is the cash award. So, I'm pretty happy about that.
Essentially, either way I will be in the pre-doc program with Volkan as my mentor.
After that meeting I passed by Volkan's office. We discussed things and he said he's going to write me a letter of recommendation for the program that'll make their head spin. I'm glad he's taking an interest in me. He also recommended that I sign up for student APA and go to Washington DC this summer for the conference to hear him speak (among others). Then he saw that if I get into the state-wide pre-doc program that he'll get $1k to travel with me, and he said that the letter of recommendation with be super amazing, then!
He is going to let me fill out budget's and plans of action and we'll review them to make sure it sounds good. I'm glad he's trusting me to do this. He also says soon he wants to have a sit down with me about where I should apply, so that's good.
Everything is going amazingly.
Yet, I haven't told my parents.
