I would rather them have conservative views than no views at all, and I am alienated for stating my opinion. I believe I am a better person because I am passionate about beliefs and I give a shit, rather than conform to the status quo because it's "weird" if you have a different opinion.
Talking down on personal beliefs does not apply in this case, because they have no beliefs. They view reading as a waste of time, yes, that's a belief, but only because they don't care. If they believed that movies were better than books because they provided a visual that an audience member could relate to better than literature, that's a valid point. Malheuresement, the only point they give is "Reading is stupid."
And you know what? You should 'give two shits' about whether someone picks up a book or not, because the last thing we need is more ignorant people like you who feel they have to rain on everyone's parade just because they don't make something of themselves. After all, the people who make history as the people who challenge common opinions and views, and how can someone do that if they don't immerse themselves in the writings of great thinkers? Not everyone has to make history, we need people to work at gas stations and do the jobs no one wants to do, but that doesn't make them bad people. What makes people "bad" is when they refuse to do something because it's abnormal, because it's 'just not done.' This is the case with most people at my school. It's just not done, so they don't do it. Stating your opinion, since it's just not done, is a rare occurrence.
And you know what? I feel sorry for you. You should care, everyone should case, because if we don't, then what are we? We're furniture, people taking us space. What is the point of living if we don't apply ourselves or devote ourselves to something better? Religion, love, the pursuit of knowledge, truth, justice. Going around and saying people who are passionate about these things are pretentious and 'superior bitches' is not a very noble cause, wouldn't you agree?
I'm afraid, and I'm sure everyone who reads this can agree, it is you who are at fault. I care about politics because they affect everyone, not to mention our environment which is the only place we have to live.
If you really believe I wrote this entry to prove myself better than everyone, you may just be right. Thanks to your selfish and ignorant comment, you have further proved my point that there are people in the world who will never make anything out of themselves for some reason or another.
Tend your own garden, my brother, and leave people alone. Go grab an Austen, she'll teach you a thing or two about how to behave.
