NAME: i go by "lekker" (which means "delicious" in dutch...i lived in amsterdam for awhile)
AGE: 34
FAVORITE FEMALE WRITERS/POETS WITH THEMES OF MADNESS? well, my college thesis paper was on kate chopin's , so i guess i have to include that and others include but are not limited to: kathy acker, jeanette winterson, duong thu huong, karen finley, bell hooks, gertrude stein, emily dickinson, virginia woolf, julia kristeva, marguerite duras, kathryn harrison, exene cervenka, dorothy allison, toni morrison, dorothy parker, willa cather, nuala o'faolain, zelda fitzgerald...
FAVORITE BOOKS ON MADNESS? ...again include, but not limited to:
FAVORITE FILMS WHICH DOCUMENT OR HINT AT "WOMEN & MADNESS"? though some might argue, i think ellen burstyn's role in is an excellent representation of a woman losing her mind, albeit through the aid of drugs...also thought was nice...and i'm sure there are many more, but i think i've exhausted my listing capabilities for the day....
FAVORITE QUOTE, OR LINE FROM ONE OF THE AUTHORS/POETS/BOOKS/FILMS STATED ABOVE? ahh, there are too many, really, but this one by emily dickinson is applicable, i suppose,
DO YOU HAVE PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WHICH HAVE BEEN TOUCHED ON IN THIS COMMUNITY? i spent some time in a psychiatric ward when i was a teenager..spent many years on/off medication, am a recovering junkie, have spent time in approx. 8 different psychiatrist/therapist's offices and have been diagnosed with ocd, a personality disorder, depression, etc., but who believes that shit nowadays? most psychiatrists diagnose in order to prescribe and thus fatten their wallets, what can i say, i'm not a huge fan of the pharmaceutical companies, but don't get me wrong i like pills just as much as anybody and believe in the science of psychiatry, but i just know there are a whole lot of schmucks out there just trying to turn a dollar...in any case i'm secure with my insecurities and dysfunctions and embrace them as much as the good qualities that inhabit me.
and also, i'm a recent trasplant to germany (7 months ago) and am looking for a little bit of a lifeline. while i am living with my life partner, i still crave the insights of women and have had a difficult time making female friends here (german women are a bit reserved, and i'm a bit, how shall i say, not reserved.), so let it flood girls!
