Paper (Arcade Fire - The Suburbs)

I woke up early today so I can get to work on my comic book.  Started out with a coffee and a cigar while working on a blog post for dalewoodruff.net then did a little drawing on a comic for Burnside Tales.

Yesterday I went to Starbucks to get some work done on a story called "Fear of the Dark"  I basically penciled the entire story, inked it, and before I knew it I had completed a whole story in one sitting.  The building of content for my site is happening faster and faster which makes me feel so much better about my work.  I feel like I've been drifting in a holding pattern for so long - it's nice to feel like I can complete something.

Also an added benefit of getting out and drawing in public was that I had two different people request my business cards.  It makes me realize even more that while I'm not where I want to be artistically yet, I'm still not to bad of an artist.

Something that I've been contemplating since the 24 hr zine challenge has been how I produce my work.  This entire year I've been focusing on digital drawing because it's so much easier to correct mistakes and the images look so much crisper and cleaner - but lately I've been drawing with good ol' pencil/pen and paper and I have to come to the conclusion that I can draw so much better on paper.  Maybe one day when I have a Cintiq and I can draw right to a screen I'll be as good digitally, but for now the Wacom tablet that I use has such a removed feel from the drawing that it's hard to match good ol' paper.  I know there are a lot of great techniques to "cleaning" the art digitally so I'll look into that soon.

Today's song is Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" from their new album of the same name.  Since their release on August 3rd my manager has been praising the album.  I was going to wait until my next payday to pick it up be he pointed out I can pick it up on Amazon.com for 4$ right now - A masterful album for the price of a cup of coffee?  I can afford that.  I've been in love with The Arcade Fire since I first heard "The Funeral" on KEXP's song of the day.  In fact I introduced my mother to their music and she loves them as well!
