Talking about art is like dancing about architecture

Oddmall is steadily approaching. The official date is November 7th, so if you are going, better note the date in your calendar or give yourself a faux tattoo of it with a sharpie pronto.

I have been begging my hubby to help me get the Halloween Comic printed for Packrat Comics. Packrat is having a party on the 24th, I will be in Cincinnati, but I want to give them the books to give away. I also need to bring them some canned food, they do this Halloween party for Mid Ohio Foodbank, you see? So they collect canned food for it. Packrat folks are good peoples.

I've been falling asleep watching Art 21 on PBS lately. One of the artists who was rambling said "art is just thinking, it is a way of expressing what is on the inside on the outside." I thought that was a pretty good definition, as far as definitions go. Defining art is something I am not arrogant enough to try and do on my own.

I keep obsessing about the things that I don't have enough time to do. I have been somewhat methodically studying the patterns of hieroglyphics and symbols of chess pieces. It is for the latest comic book pages of Symphony of the Universe. As Adelle is leaving the giant chessboard and approaching Aten-Ra's bizarre pseudo-Egypt land I want to represent that visually, so I am trying to do that with thick patterned borders. It has been taking me a long time to get back into the groove.

The only thing I can think that the chess pieces and hieroglyphics have in common is that they are both a from of symbolic language. But I'll spare you any Scott McCloud style lectures and leave it at that.

I stopped by the library on my lunch break today. They had a book called "1,000 Inspirations for Jewelry" - it is almost entirely pictures of handmade beaded things. So I picked it up. Not that I need more distractions, but I do love a good distraction.
