It was not an appropriate moment for Valerian's words to echo in Seth's mind, but that is exactly what was happening.
"There are demons around us, everywhere." Valerian said. "Lost souls forever banished."
There was something especially excruciating about those words now that Seth knew Valerian was after him specifically.
Seth could hear Valerian's voice as clearly as if the angel stood before him. "I praise our Lord and savior that this murderer is where he belongs, in hell with all the Atheists and non-believers."
But Valerian was not in front of him. Only a half circle of young men, armed and menacing. Maybe it wasn't so odd that Seth was thinking about Valerian's curses. Because at that very moment, Seth was questioning his mortality. Questioning what would happen to him in the great beyond. After all, he was a demon, there was only one logical place to go: to hell.
Was there a place of fire and brimstone and pitchforks waiting for him? Would he be in a sadists paradise surrounded by atheists and non-believers? What did that even mean? Isn't an atheist and a non-believer the same thing? Did Valerian mean that every Rabbi and Buddist Monk and Tribal Shaman should be lumped together in one vast cooking pot in the bowels of a fire pit?
One of the teenagers charged forward, hollering as he did so. The others followed suit. Seth morphed into his demonic form as quickly as he could. Large gazelle like horns sprouted from his forehead. His fingernails grew into pointed claws and his teeth elongated. His eyes shone bright and wild, like a feral animal.
Seth lowered his voice and hollered at them in demonic. "Let me be, let me go!"
The young men drew back, terrified of the sight before them. Of course, they had no idea what he said, but they understood by his tone that they should be frightened.
Seth snarled, now in English so that they would comprehend him. "If you value your souls you will run from this place and speak of this to no one."
The teenagers fled. Milton jumped down from the balcony and landed in a crouch in front of Seth.
"Ignatious, Seth Igantious! You are making a mistake!" Milton spoke.
Seth charged at Milton, claws out and full intent to cause damage. Milton sidestepped his attack with ease.
"You destroyed my car! You ambushed me! Threatened me!" Seth roared.
Milton explained. "You are forcing my hand Seth, you could make this so much easier."
"Why?" Seth bellowed. "Why should I listen to you? You do this from the good of your heart? I KNOW YOU! You want something! It takes a soul to fuel a contract! I'm not in the trade, don't you get it!?"
"Why not give me yours?" Milton said. "You're fucked anyway."
"I WILL NOT BE YOUR SLAVE!" Seth hissed and charged at Milton again.
It was at that exact moment that Milton saw a dark shadow pass overhead. Milton tried to announce the imposing figure which was hovering above them. The one with the twelve foot wingspan. The glowing figure of holy self-righteousness that had come forth to smite them.
However, Seth's horns had just impaled Milton in the right shoulder. So all that Milt managed to say was "Aghhh.." and even that was barley understood as Valerian swept down from the sky and knocked both demons to the ground.
