So, uh, there was really no point to Gwaine being in this, but I am so not complaining because OMG Gwaine how are you so lovely? I liked him in 3x04 but now I pretty much want the Merlin & Gwaine show, with Bradley doing the voiceover narration or something.

Merlin got a hug! Merlin got an actual honest-to-goodness hug from someone who is not his mother or Gaius! ...This should not be such a novelty that it requires all this gushing, but whatever, Merlin got a hug! Merlin is Gwaine's best friend and Gwaine came for him and they had a buddy chase scene and a hug! And I, uh, kind of wanted Merlin to go off with Gwaine at the end there.

So Arthur basically spent his Quest to Prove His Worth As King being strategically unconscious. That ... is depressingly appropriate. He is also, like, the least grateful or observant person ever, and it's getting to the point where I'm having a hard time separating 'Arthur the character I like(d)' from 'Stupid shit the writers make Arthur do'. I still love Bradley and series-1-AU-Arthur, but unless they do some serious turn-around in terms of how he's being written this year (which, uh, based on [spoilers] seems unlikely) I may be done with canon!Arthur. Alas.

...Merlin/Gwaine show now please? Did I mention that Gwaine hugged Merlin? Because Gwaine hugged Merlin. And Gwaine came on a ridiculous quest for Merlin. And Gwaine kind of made besotted eyes at Merlin. And Gwaine rolled his eyes at Arthur's uselessness. And, um, obviously Merlin asked where Gwaine's going next so's he can sneak out for sexy visits. Obviously. ...Did I mention the hug?

Ten points for Gwen finally noticing that something's up with Morgana. Minus five for failure to indicate that Gaius told her anything or that he told Merlin that Gwen is suspicious, but for now I'm just going to pretend that Gwen and Merlin talked about this off screen while Arthur was upholding his fine tradition of taking credit that isn't due him.

...I am sort of bitter that they've basically transplanted about 80% of what used to be great about Arthur/Merlin onto Merlin/Gwaine, but for the moment at least I am too delighted with Merlin getting hugged to bitch about it too much.
