I cannot breathe through my nose. It is a very unpleasant feeling. It took me a little while to realize why eating was suddenly such an unpleasant experience, as I couldn't breathe while chewing. I've had to cancel multiple plans with friends because I'm just too tired from the constantly changing cold symptoms -- from sore throat, to coughing, to congestion... Although, I was relieved to have an excuse not to spend $20 at the cinema to see one movie I would definitely not enjoy (Terminator) and one film I would probably not enjoy (Star Trek). Friendships are hard when one party is insanely picky about films while the other wants to see everything ever released.
Today was eh. I got Resident Evil 4, which is my third M-rated game, and then had no time to even turn the PS2 on because I had to set up my dad's laptop. Brand new computers are crazy slow. And I hate Internet Explorer so, so much and can never remember this until I'm stuck with a computer that has no Firefox. Downloading OpenOffice (because someone didn't think maybe MS Word was a really, really important program that needed to be bought with new computers) is also ridiculously slow. And finally, I hate Norton. I actually disabled it for a few minutes just so I could work without it screwing with everything I downloaded. Reminds me of how I had to search for a Norton removal tool when my computer was infected with a trial edition I couldn't get rid of. I'll... stick with free programs that work just as nicely, thanks.
That's all been over with for a while and now I've spent another evening Not Writing. I was tired, okay? Lots to catch up on. It's what happens when I miss a day of Internet. Even so, I really need to get back on schedule with this. It's crazy. I just can't seem to get the energy to write anymore. I can reread what I already have, enjoy it, want to return to working with these characters, but just can't get new words down.
I'm considering a sci-fi rewrite of Retry a little too seriously. I pondered just once if it could be sci-fi, had a premise in two seconds flat, and have thought about it every once in a while since then. I'm a little scared it might be better than the original if I get it down on paper, if just because it would be more straightforward. I don't want it to be a replacement or what I finish and publish instead though. Retry is a crazy filler-filled story with no plot, but that's how it is and I like it that way, oddly enough. I like to call it a TV series in novel format, or "episodic" when I'm not feeling wordy.
Anyway, this sci-fi version... I thought I should resist such a silly notion when I need to focus on finishing the first version. But with such a writer's block plaguing me, I wonder if a crazy rewrite is just what I need to restart my creative juices.
I don't know. Give me a few more days of not being able to get this novel moving and I may just end up writing me some science fiction for the first time in years. Yay robots instead of magic!
