MadMan's Master's Degree

Apr 13, 2008 01:05

So I just talked to the head of the English Education department the other day, and it turns out that by next Spring, I could be enrolled in Master's courses to begin studying -- of all the fucking things -- the applications of graphic novels in the classroom.

Granted, I was the one who proposed the idea, but it feels so freaking cool to be given the opportunity to contribute to a field of study that, up until now, has been virtually untapped.

But the sweetest part..?

Before before it was even an idea, I was discussing using graphic novels to create an author database, and several e-mails later, the good Doctor told me that if I were to pursue a master's thesis in this field, she'd volunteer to be on my committee.

I hope to God this works out, because if it does, I'll be eligible for grants and could essentially be PAID TO READ COMICS!!!

But it's all in the beginning stages right now, so I still have to apply to the program, secure three letters of recommendation, score a combined 1000 on the GRE, and submit a proposal.

This should be a cakewalk. They'll be hard pressed to find someone who's more passionate about their research than I already am.
