Having recently seen the new Jackass movie, I was convinced that the "terrorist and the taxi driver" gag was one of the greatest pranks ever concocted by man, as anyone who's already seen it probably agrees. But just this afternoon, as I was rummaging through the "weird news" section of Snopes.com (which, by the way, is a great place to waste an afternoon or two), I came across quite the golden nugget.
There's a prankster on the loose in Morgantown, W. Va., because back on one spring morning, Allen Snyder stepped outside to discover his lawn gnome had been stolen. He didn't take it much to heart at the time because, let's face it, you pretty much expect something like this to happen when you put a dorky gnome on your front lawn. What he didn't expect was that his gnome would try to keep in touch, and since its disappearance, it has already sent Snyder three written letters, all signed "Gnomey."
The latest letter included a picture of Gnomey in a crowd of Steelers fans, stating that Snyder "never took me to any games." An earlier one even included a picture of Gnomey in the back of a police car, begging Snyder to send him some bail money.
The best part of all came after the people at Travelocity got wind of the prank, and as a humorous gift, mailed him a replica of the "Roaming Gnome" they use in their commercials.
