Lockout

I had the urge to go clubbing last night. Actually, I've had it all week. I must say, the Brisbane clubbing scene isn't at all like a remember it. Maybe it was because I was high on 320mg of caffine, taurine and gurana, but everything seemed too sedated and regulated. I bumped into an old friend and made a new one, went to the casino and got kicked out because the new friend was drunk. Fair call, we were out of the place less than a minute before he was making out with some drunk random.

I lost that group and went to Tank, which was closed. Several clubs were closed actually. By 1am Omally's was starting to get quiet. I decided that the Valley has been in the news a bit lately for being loud and rowdey, so I decided to go there and see if the life was any better. Sadly, I don't know the clubs the way I used to so wandering into every free entry place didn't yield the results I was hoping for.

I also managed to get stuck in a small strip bar (I didn't know it was that when I walked in) when the lockout went into effect. At least this crowd was supportive of their strippers, cheering awesome pole dancing moves and such. When I decided I'd had enough I wandered the streets to see the effect of the lockout. Predictably taxis were swarming like vultures and the taco shops were doing great business.

Has the Brisbane clubbing scene really been reduce to well behaved young people who drink moderately and catch taxis home under fear of the roaming gangs of police? What hapened to the Fortitude Valley of my childhood where you had to step over 5 unconcious bodies just to get into a club? Is there a new popular place to be was Brisbane just having an off night?
