I don't often mention it, but one of my favorite things about
lofro is that he makes me smarter. Case in point: today we had a long conversation about the nature of fandom, inspired by the inevitable Watchmen wars--or at least, I knew they were inevitable. He was surprised, because he does not engage with texts in fandomish ways, and talking to him makes me understand better just what those ways are and what they mean.
I want to focus on this sort of thing and not how this week is made of FAIL. Because:
1) A cabinet FELL OFF THE WALL last night. Luckily this chose to happen as I was opening it, so nothing broke--I managed to hold it up just long enough to get the fragile stuff out and then maneuver it onto the kitchen table. The screws holding it up seem to have completely pulled free of the plaster.
2) I have also confirmed that something attached to my bathtub leaks. The first time I got out of the bath to a small lake on the floor, I blamed a disconnected drain hose to the washing machine, thinking it had let water from the bath drain leak out. The second time, i thought maybe the drain had a leak. Today--while trying to deal with the small Superfund site surrounding Lucy's litterbox, because wet used cat litter = UGH--I realized that something behind that tub sprays water whenever the hot faucet is on. It does not seem affected by the cold faucet, so I can do my laundry, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter whether it's the bathroom or the kitchen running hot because there is a significant puddle underneath the tub that I never noticed until I stuck a mop under there.
3) I think one of Fort's shift keys is dying. The right one, you know, the one I ALWAYS USE.
4) The weather forecast went from "Imminent warmth wave next week!" to "gloom! GLOOM!" in like two hours. Instead, tomorrow they're predicting 7" of snow. FAIL.
But pursuant to item #3, Ruslan sent 'round an email saying he had a used laptop for sale--35,000 tenge/$233, and it's got a bigger hard drive and more memory than Fort. Slightly slower processor, but I figure that balances out the memory thing--if it's in reasonable condition, I can use it for Internets and Fort for other things. He's going to bring it to the library tomorrow so I can check it out.
Should call Oleg and/or Galina about my 'splodey apartment, but really, I wanted a day off today. A day of naps and internets and not having to wear real clothes. Tomorrow can be fixit day.
