Well, Suppan hasn't been dominate since before we got him, actually. He has never had the overpowering stuff; he knows how to use what he's been given, even if his record isn't always the best. (He gets very little run support from us, which doesn't help.) But he *is* a big game pitcher; I mean, he beat Roger Clemens in Game 7 in 2004. And in the postseason, what you need are big game pitchers. (As an aside, Suppan only gave up three runs in that Padres game. We should have been able to do enough offensively to win anyway and didn't - that was the fault of our hitters. I'll take a pitcher giving up three runs with our offense any day.)
And I wasn't arguing with you about Weaver. Just stating my opinion. :)) It seems like it took Game 5's performance for people outside of StL to realize that he is worth something after all.
I like to ignore stats. :)) We took two out of three against the Mets in StL and were swept in NY. But our pitching was pretty much sucking at that point, so it's difficult to compare our team now to our team back in August. Sure we're short some starters, but we're working well with what we've got. I'm not saying we're not going to lose to the Tigers, but I do think we'll make a series of it. And if we can make a series of it, you never know what can happen. Just ask the Mets. ;)
