Happy Birthday, keelywolfe! Er, as circumstances allow. Hope your daughter has a good one, too, and soon. :-)

Today was the dreaded Outdoor Conferences at the WC, which, in true Murphyan fashion, always fall during the worst possible weather. Last year we had one day of scorching, one day of freezing, and one day of gale-force winds; this year, thankfully, we only did the one day, and it was chilly and rainy and generally gloomy. However, we were at least under an overhang and thus not getting wet.

Unfortunately for me, Ms. Minn went nuts and assigned a shitload of extra homework for Chinese, so I will probably be doing that for the next, like, year. :-(

Oh, but last night was awesome--we went to see the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans. They sounded amazing (except for the trumpeter, who was having some trouble with his reed) and they were funny, too--the vocalist brought a couple of clowns, who opened the show with a little pantomime and then danced in the grand finale. Which was not really the finale, because they did a coda in memory of the hurricane called "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans" that just, wow. I can't really explain what it felt like to listen to--this band, all of whom lost homes and possession in the storm, singing this song. But they didn't let it stay serious: after the musicians took their bows, the clowns came out with a toolbox and a large saw and carried away the bass. :-)

school, music, friends
