I also finished Three Nights in August and I must say, I can see why Buzz Bissinger makes the big bucks. He writes with humor, even when the situation isn't inherently humorous, and he has an honest voice. When he talks about Bo Hart hitting the flying crap out of the ball, it doesn't sound like he's forcing himself to be folksy or anything. And yet he can still handle the hardcore parts, such as writing about LaRussa's marriage or the death of Darryl Kile, and in describing the game he can create the same kind of tension as if you were watching it live. Reminds me of Stephen King in a way, which is why I'm so excited to get Faithful.
