Reading online I see that Apple, in their infinite wisdom, are going to "remove[] audiobooks from the Music app and drop[] it into its iBooks application" when iOS 8.4 is released.
Yes, it's a book therefore I must want it in iBooks, mustn't I? I don't even like iBooks to read in!

The OSX iBooks application is nice. It's pleasant to use and would be lovely if your library consisted of stuff only purchased via iTunes. But it has no capability to do basic stuff, like editing file info. It's also crap at syncing stuff to my iPhone, although this could have a lot to do with me being seriously annoyed by the time I've even got to that point.
The only way I can shove ebook management back to iTunes is to delete iBooks. Every time I get a major OSX update I get iBooks reinstalled and have to kill it again.
For iOS you may have to find a third party app to handle audiobooks. No doubt there'll be a flood of choices soon as you won't be the only one inconvenienced by this change.
