So last Saturday was Gardiner Day and the official kickoff of the Whatever Family Festival. There was gorgeous artwork downtown, numerous food and jewelry booths, trolley rides, tours of the historic homes in Gardiner, and just plain 'ole fun. As I walked from my house to downtown (because of no car being available), I got downtown and people were packing things up and everything closing down. And I missed the trolley rides (which I really wanted to ride). So I was naturally pissed off and walked into A1 To Go, the little cafe place on the corner of Water St. and Brunswick Ave. Turns out, they're about to close, too, but I get in an order before they do. As I'm in there, waiting for my food, this woman sees the camera I'm holding (my Dad's old Canon, I borrowed to get some great shots). She says she had a camera just like that one. I tell her it's my Dad's. She said hers was her Dad's, too. Then she mentions that she's a professional photographer. That she and her family just moved back into Gardiner (after living in Indiana for 8 years). That she's looking for an assistant because even though she just got here a week ago, she already has a wedding booked up. I told her that I'm an amateur and that I don't know the first thing about developing photos. She said that the only way to learn is to watch a professional.
She gave me her business card.
The wedding that she would need help with is in September. I should have my car by then.
Not only would I gain a little extra money plus what I earn from Hannaford, but I would gain experience and something to put on my resume from being an personal assistant of sorts. Plus, learn more about photography.
I'm surprisingly scared. Should I go for it?
