Sitting in the diniing room, just finished lunch on Saturday, lady I've never seen before walks in, announces shes looking for a babysitter for that night (about 8 people sitting round). I say yes. Turns out she lives just up the road and her usual babysitter (all of her babysitters in the last few years have come from the hall) isn't repying. She says 6-11, about 4 kids from a couple of families as the paents are going out to the movies. All good $10/hr (man I've been out of the loop ages, lsat time I sat the going rate was $8).
Dinner starts at 6 so I head down to the supermarket to grab a cuppasoup (theres always bread and toasters avaliable in the dining room). About half past 4 I get a call (every resident has a phone in their room, with a list of other people's extensions). One of exchange students (a sindaporean guy I've made friends with) wants to know if he can come two. Hes never babysat before and wants to know how its done. He'll bring his laptop and do his assignments as well, he just wants to watch. This kind of weirds me out - I'e never met this family before and although I learnt by watching, it was my sister doing the babysitting, we knew the family well and I had a job with them several days later (had literally just turned 14 and had a daytime job for them coming up). So I say know, tell him that 9-12s are the easiet to work with and that being watched would be weird for everyone involved (and that if I was okay with it, I'd need to call ahead for approval).
He accepted it but at the time it was a bit weird. I've got a reasonably big photo montage up on my wardrobe with photos dating back to 6th form. Should bring them to the next picnic. Jo, have photos from your 15th and 17th birthday parties (Kaukau and Kaitoke).
Sorry, can't work out uploading my photos.
Sorry I misssed the picnic, if anyone knows where I can get a software upgrade for my memory, please let me know!
