First Encounters of the Awkward Kind;
Campus Park
She had been under no false illusions over what the others on campus thought of her. Three weeks into her first year of college and Ophelia was already known throughout the campus as 'weird'. It didn't bother her, she'd always been a little bit eccentric, her parents thought it was just a phase. She wasn't sure.
It did mean she got to sit in peace, huddled under a tree in the park at the centre of campus, her violin in a case beside her while she poured over her history books in preparation for class. Her anxiety always seemed to triple whenever in class, even when she knew everything, but it didn't stop her from trying harder next time.
Across the grass a group of boys were playing soccer, Ophelia able to ignore them satisfactory until the ball came flying towards the tree she sat under. Smacking off the trunk, Ophelia startled slightly, her pen scoring a line along her page. She looked up at the group, noticing one coming for the ball. Great.
He was tall, with messy brown hair and pretty chocolate eyes, his stubbled cheeks giving a false look of age. She just smiled slightly as she handed up the ball, looking to get any teasing over with so she could get back to her books. But he just stood there, watching her.
"Anything else you want?" She asked, frowning at him. He just shook his head, a small quirk of a smile on his lips as he took the ball from her.
"I'm Rictor." And she had a name, she just nodded at him, looking away to study her notes. She heard him walk away, and Ophelia couldn't help but look up, watching him. At least until she saw he was still looking over at her.
She ducked her head back to her notes, a soft smile on her lips and blush on her cheeks. He hadn't teased, and she felt a strange sort of warmth in her stomach as she thought about that.
