A deadly chill filled the place and a thick mist covered the global battlefield as legions got ready for war. With water and rosaries, rock salt and long forgotten languages as weapons, with young ones and few adults as soldiers this was going to be a long night, an endless one.

Families and authorities all around the world rested peacefully and quietly having no idea of the war coming over them and of how it was going to torn the world they knew and turn it into ashes. They weren’t ready, the world wasn’t ready.

Men and women lined up in front of the gates. Their eyes widened and their knees shook as the sky was painted red and it was a matter of time before the world turned into the most horrible nightmare, into hell itself. Their leader stood tall before them, looking great and mighty and yet cold and shallow, there was no trace of any emotion on Sam Winchester’s face as he simply stared at the pair of metal doors; the same pair of doors he had seen hell itself break loose from a year before.

“People are scared” Ruby whispered.

Sam didn’t move a muscle but simply stared at the distance.

“Shouldn’t they be?” he said coldly, still not looking at her “Let them be scared, it’ll keep the adrenaline running through their veins” then he made a brief pause “fear is the only thing that will keep them alive”

She simply nodded and gripped the dagger in her right hand tightly.

Finally the sun set down, as it did a strong wind came from the west and the world seemed to go mute for a couple of seconds.

“They are here” Bobby whispered from Sam’s left.

At the distance hundreds of shapes could be seen, a damned and dark army that knew nothing but destruction and wanted nothing but the end of the world.

Sam could hear the sound of multiple shotguns being loaded behind him.

“Hold it” He raised his hand and his voice was like a thunder in the middle of the silence.

The army marched in their direction, only increasing their numbers and the fear in their adversaries as they did.

“What the hell are you waiting for?” Ruby said annoyed “Once they’re close enough we won’t be able to do anything against them”
“But as far as they are we still can’t harm them either… besides, we are one man short” for the first time since they had gotten there Sam looked down at Ruby for a few seconds, then he looked back at the army lead by Lilith. “They are opening hell”

They all stood there in silence, their hearts racing in their chest and fear taking over every inch of their bodies as the shape of the little girl walked over to the pair of metallic gates, in the middle of the old forgotten cemetery the hunters were lining up in front of and with a simple gesture of her hand the doors swung open.

The reflection of hell’s flames came through the doors and smoke and sulfur filled the cemetery in front of them, echoes and screams came from the door for a couple of seconds and then they stopped. It wasn’t long before the silence was replaced by the sound of a loud explosion and a thick cloud of black smoke rushed outside the doors and ran in all directions. Thousands of souls and bodies climbed up hell itself to escape from their prison and the torn and tortured bodies and souls joined the damned army.

From the distance Sam could see Lilith staring right at him and then walking back to rejoin her forces.

“Sam…” Ruby said.
“Wait” Sam said as he looked at the gate.

A hand crawled up and grabbed the thin grass tightly making an effort to help himself up, and then a second hand joined the first one. Finally he put himself up, part of his clothes were still burning, and sulfur, blood and ashes covered most of his body, he was missing part of his forefinger and had a deep scar on the side of his neck and another one on his right arm, being a month in hell had definitely left some scars on him.

Slowly he walked right in the middle of two armies and stood there looking at both of them, first to one and then to the other, just observing them, studying the fight that was about to take place. Seconds later he joined his side, half smiled and then with a blink his bright green eyes turned black.

The last soldier had escaped from hell and was now staring right at his captain.

“It’s show time, Sammy” Dean whispered.

And the battle that was going to decide the fate of the world began.
