A Declaration of love

Ok so all over the fandom I've seen people complaining about the relationship of the boys... how season one was all love and this one blah blah blah and to be honest I'm tired of it. I think sometimes we have the need to believe we are right all the time that we forget to see things from all angles, so this is my Sam and Dean s4 Love Declaration.

I've felt kind of out of place every time I see these posts of people complaining about the boys relationship being ruined and season one being much better but believe it or not I DISAGREE!!

I think Season one was awesome... I LOVED IT! that was the reason I started to like the show! I'm a fan of the show since it began in 2005 with Pilot =) I thought it was a fantastic show that dealt with family issues but in a Supernatural/Horror show context. Overall I think it was awesome! I found it really cool that they could mix so many great things, like the classic rock, the two loving (and hot XD) brothers, how they were trying to unite their family again, dealing with problems we could find in our own homes sometimes (who haven't fought with his/her dad? or lost a loved one? maybe even fought with his/her siblings?) the only thing different is the fact that they have demons and ghosts in the equation. I thought it was fantastic!

Season one was mostly about the boys reuniting as they looked for John. Dean and Sam had been away from each other for FOUR YEARS! so it was easy to tell they had both grown up a lot being apart so I feel this season was mostly about catching up... about learning about each other. Like Sam not knowing Dean was now hunting by himself... or Dean knowing Sam had a girlfriend. This season was mostly about them becoming brothers again. Even Sam says it on "In my time of dying" (2x1):
You can't go, man, not now. We were just starting to be brothers again.
As Sam said... they're mostly readjusting to being a team now and they do it magnificently. And they are getting to know each other better =) I think that mostly this is why we all love their relationship in this season. They are like best friends.

On the other hand season four has a lot of changes, the boys are no longer being as open as they are to each other. Mostly because they both think that by doing this they are saving EACH OTHER. Dean is playing with angels... so what? He went through a lot in hell and now has Apocalypse coming and Sam being addicted to demon blood he felt it was the best to put himself in the service of angels. So he could end this and keep Sam safe. Do you see something wrong in that? I don't. Meanwhile Sam... Ok, Sam's case is much different... not to say more complicated. He's drinking demon blood cause he wants to kill Lilith (the demon who killed his brother and is now bringing the Apocalypse) so he drinks demon blood despite the fact the knows it is bad. Cause he DOES know. Do you remember in "Chris Angel is a Douche Bag"? He told Ruby it wasn't the psychic powers he wasn't ok with, it was the demon blood! He knows it is bad. He just does it cause he thought that it was the only way he would ever save his brother from being the one having to stop the Apocalypse... he feels Dean is too weak to kill Lilith, so he's willing to step out for his brother and help him so that he doesn't have to stop the Apocalypse. I think Sam's intentions were really good... he knew it was bad but put Dean's life first... is not something new for the Winchesters is it? I don't think he would have taken it if he knew it was addictive... he's way too deep now and even then he knows it is not good.

They've taken different directions both the two of them have the same goal: stopping the Apocalypse and keeping his brother safe.

I think this season depends a lot on the way you look at it. Most people see it as the boys getting farther. I, on the other hand think that they have never loved each other more than they do now. Cause:

* Did you actually SEE Dean's face as he's standing by Bobby, with Sam's screams on the background in "When the Levee breaks". He didn't say a word and yet it was easy to tell he was devastated.

* Dean actually agreed to go with the angels, even when he told Bobby he has never trusted them less. Cause he knows that this way... it is HIM and not Sam who'll end the Apocalypse.

* The last one. And probably the worst of Sam's "demons" as he was inside the room had Dean's form. It represented not just the fear he has of becoming a monster, but also the fear of losing the one he loves the most: Dean.

* Sam feels the need to be the one who stops the Apocalypse cause he feels Dean is too weak for it... not cause he can't but because something bad happened to him in hell and he's still not as sharp as he used to be. He wants to PROTECT HIM. I know he is on the darkside now... but now because he wanted to. His intentions were good but things turned out worst than he expected.
Don't say that to me... don't you say that to me!
Sam was broken as he said this... even when he knew he was having hallucinations to have his brother saying that to him was watching his worst fear come true.

* If you walk out that door... don't you ever come back
I think this was probably the part that really broke me. A lot of people don't see that much relevance to this sentence out of the fact that John said it first. I think that for the boys it meant more than just words. IMO, the fact that Dean quoted John's words, from the day Sam left for Stanford were probably worst than any punch he gave to his brother. I think he was trying to reflect some of the pain he was feeling at the time... feeling left by his brother. It was Dean's last hope for Sam to open his eyes. And you can see if you look carefully at the boys features that there's no hate or anger... no matter how they try to hide it. There's just pain.

Truth is Sam and Dean love each other... to death. Literarily.

So how about a round up?
S1 vs S4
Boys playing jokes - Boys sacrificing themselves for each other
Boys re-bonding and getting to know each other better - Boys knowing each other more than themselves
Boys laughing together - Boys crying over each other
Boys joking - Boys arguing for who's way of saving the world and each other are better cause none was the other to suffer.
Boys being friends - Boys being brothers.

Dean and Sam have always being brothers... there's no doubt of that. Blood brothers. But I think that no matter how much they loved each other as they grew up it wasn't until they had to hunt together, and it was them against the world that they finally found out how much they didn't know about each other. Now they really KNOW each other and I think that all of these fights and tears have just increased the love they already had for each other. I think that season one showed us two friends having fun, but season four show us two brothers, to soulmates. No, I'm not a slasher. YES, I think Dean and Sam are soulmates =) I think a soulmate is not necessarily your partner, it can be your mother, you father, your son, your best friend and even you brother. I think a soulmate is the person that can totally understand you, that knows you completely, the person that completes who you are and in who's company you can be yourself, a soulmate is your support when you need it the most, your partner in crime, your best friend and the person you just can't see yourself without. I think that's what our boys are. Dean and Sam are soulmates, fighting when they are together, but broken when they are apart. ♥
