Sam returns from Hell with his immune system shot. He ends up coming down with pneumonia and ends up in the hospital.

It didn’t seem important to begin with. After everything the Apocalypse had thrown at them, up to and including death (and Death), a cold was nothing. At first Dean even found himself half-ashamedly enjoying Sam’s sniffles. A sick Sam was a needy, clingy Sam, and when your brother has just been miraculously resurrected any excuse to hover without betraying your tough guy exterior is appreciated. So Dean found a juice bar and brought home their ‘Vitamin C Special’ and their ‘Immunity Juice’, and forced cold and flu tablets down Sam’s throat at regular intervals, and didn’t bitch about the Kleenex that started to take over their room ( ... )

AWWW road trip!! That is possibly the sweetest thing EVER. I love how Dean goes from using Sam's sniffles as an excuse to hover without hurting his rep to hardcore caretaking when it turns worse. LOVED THIS!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Yes, in my mind they're off on a brotherly-bonding roadtrip together, with Dean doing the big brother thing and making sure Sam stays out of hospitals.

Yes, definitely no hand-holding; just close hand proximity.

I don't seem to have time to write anything that's not a sermon at the moment, but I can almost manage comment-fic (although I should have been writing a sermon at the time.) Maybe I should do more of it.

I saw the comments before I saw the fic. "Close hand proximity" totally jumped out at me. That was an awesome and well-placed line. :)
