When I was eleven years old, my idea of a good friend was the person who didn't laughed when he saw me in that elevator, almost crying for being lost. That guy who even introduced himself and then showed me the right way.
When I was twelve years old, my idea of a good friend was the person who helped me stand up to the bully among the juniors and stayed and helped me practice the dance steps. The person who shared stories with me, like how he wanted to learn how to play the guitar and how he hates cats; silly stories so I could forget my problems.
When I was thirteen years old, my idea of a good friend was the person who shared his favorite pocky with me while on the bus, when I forgot my food during one of the tours. And after that, he also shared his bento, even though I have scolded him for drinking softdrinks so early in the morning.
When I was fourteen, my idea of a good friend was the person who didn't forget to call even though I was in Australia. That person who preferred calling rather than mailing. He didin't even mind waiting til midnight in Japan to call. It was more inconvenient since midnight in Japan means midnight in Australia, but still, I was touched.
When I was fifteen, my idea of a good friend was the person who, though younger, tried to comfort me when I was scolded by our dance choreographer. With his husky voice, he had told me soothing words and even prepared me his favorite mango saying, "Eat this, this always cheers me up!"
When I was sixteen, my idea of a good friend was someone who, though tired as well, stayed up all night with me helping me with my English homework. He was a bit awkward, but he tried his best to teach me.
When I was seventeen, my idea of a good friend was someone who tried to act tough even though he wanted to cry as well and tried to reach my shoulder to pat me when I started crying because of our debut.
When I was eigtheen, my idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside, because he was such a crybaby, but managed the biggest smile one could give as he congratulated me. That person who even prepared my favorite curry for the occasion. "A special recipe." He declared, and unmistakably, I smelled a whiff of strawberry.
When I was nineteen, my idea of a good friend was the person who, even though still in high school, helped me pick out a college, assured me that you would get into that college saying "If it's Inoo Kei-chan, then he can do it!" with his bright squirrel-like smile.
When I was twenty, my idea of good friends was those person who gave me rides in their new car, convinced my parents that I shouldn't be grounded, and consoled me when I broke up with my girlfriend.
Now that I am twenty one, my idea of a good friend is still the person who:
Gives me the better of the two choices and help me when I'm lost.
Holds my hand when I'm scared, and stays with me during hard times.
Thinks and worries about me.
Reminds me of what I have forgotten.
Helps me put the past behind me and always tries to cheer me up.
Helps me in every trivial things I do.
Stays with me and thinks of me before himself.
Goes out of their way to make time for me.
Reassures me so that I'll have confidence.
Helps me clear up my mistakes and deal with pressure from others.
