Chapter 4

Mimura Chieko looked up as a knocked was heard.

"Come in..." She said.

The door opened and in came Satou-san, with Tanaka-san in tow.

"Tanaka-san." She greeted as she stood up.

Tanaka gave her a small bow.

"I'm sorry for coming without preamble, but I was hoping I could talk to Seira-san?" Tanaka said.

Chieko smiled. She knew, of course, that that's the reason Tanaka would come to their school.

"Hai..." She said, "But unfortunately, Tanaka-san, Shashu didn't come today."

"Oh..." Tanaka said, clearly disappointed.

"But..." Chieko found herself saying. She didn't know why but it seems it was very important for Tanaka-san to see Seira right now.

Tanaka looked up. "Tanaka-san, maybe you didn't know, but Kuroda-san is staying with her brother. Their house is right next to this school."

"Oh..." Tanaka repeated, but now a grin spreads across his face. Chieko smiled as well.

"I'll asked Shoji-san to accompany you."

"Arigatou gozaimasu."

---

Masami pushed the doorbell and both she and Tanaka silently waited.

About a minute or so, a maid had opened the door and had invited them in.

Masami politely refused though, saying she was only accompanying Tanaka-san.

As Masami walked back to the school, Tanaka was lead inside the big manor.

He was asked to wait in the living room to which he politely nodded.

A few minutes later, he looked up the stairwell to find Seira descending the stairs.

She smiled as their eyes met. And Tanaka stood up as she approach.

"I thought you were busy today..." Seira said, smiling.

"Uhm, my... business is finished... so I just thought of seeing you." Ainosuke said, returning the smile.

Seira gestured for the two of them to sit down.

They do so as the same maid who let Ainosuke in, serve them tea.

"Arigatou, Sachiko-san." Seira told the maid and then she turned to Ainosuke.

---

"Can I help you?" Masami asked.

There was a young man walking back and fort in front of the school.

The man looked at her, a bit surprised.

Masami smiled encouragingly.

"Ah, hai... Is this Milleneus Seminary?" He asked.

"Hai." She answered.

"Uhm, I need to see Kuroda Seira-san. It's urgent."

---

"I didnt know you live here." he commented.

"Ah, I haven't told you... sorry. The topic didn't pop up." She said.

"Hai." Ainosuke said with a chuckle.

Ainosuke, just like when Seira was still staying at the hospital, has started giving frequent visits to the Milleneus Seminary.

Frankly, Seira looks forward to these visits eventhough all they do is talk about the silliest things. She just felt very comfortable when he is around.

She smiled at him. "Thanks for visiting me today as well."

He grinned, and that was when she noticed it.

There was something different in Ainosuke.

And his eyes... They look so tired.

"...did something happened today?" Seira asked.

Ainosuke looked at her, smiled and slowly shook his head.

It wasn't exactly a 'no'. It was as if he wasn't denying something did happen but he was saying Seira shouldn't worry about it.

Seira frowned a bit.

"It's nothing really." Ainosuke said, catching her frown.

They went silent after that. But Ainosuke didn't seem to mind. It was as if he was perfectly contented just being there.

"By the way, Rin finally learned how to play dead." Ainosuke suddenly said energetically.

---

"We have a guest?" Chris asked one of the maids as he heard laughters from the living room, coming from his study.

To say he was surprised was a bit of an understatement. Seira had not smile, least laugh, since what happened.

"Hai..." the older woman said. "Seira-san's friend it seems."

Chris silently nodded and opened the door to the living room.

---

Both Seira and Ainosuke looked up when the door bell rang.

Seira was looking curious, but Ainosuke looked worried.

That was when the door to the back opened.

The two looked at the other direction instead. It was Chris.

Seira smiled and stood up.

"Ainosuke-kun, I'd like you to meet my brother, Chris." She said.

Ainosuke stood up as well and bowed.

"Tanaka Ainosuke desu." He introduced.

Chris smiled courteously at him.

The door, to the front this time, opened and in came Sachiko, the maid.

"A young man named Kusama Shuhei is in the lobby. He said he is looking for Seira-san." She said.

---

"Ai-chan!" Shuhei burst out as he saw his best friend.

He ran to him ang hugged him, almost tackling him.

"Shuhei-kun!" Ainosuke said helplessly.

"Baka! I was so worried! Why did you disappear?" He scolded, glaring at Ainosuke.

"I told you I'll be gone for a bit...." Ainosuke said, not looking at Shuhei.

"Uhmm..." Seira sounded. She as very much confused.

"Eto, Seira-san, this is my friend Shuhei." Ainosuke introduced awkwardly. "Shuhei, this is Seira-san."

Seira smiled at Shuhei. He smiled back.

"Ano, sorry about that. It's just that Ai-chan here suddenly disappeared." He said, a bit embarassed.

Seira shook his head. "It's okay."

Shuehei smiled at her.

"And, ah... Is it okay if I take him with me now? He still have an appointment, see..." He said softly.

Now Seira was really confused. She looked at Ainosuke but he wasn't looking at her.

"Ah, sure..." She said to Shuhei after a while.

"I'm really sorry about this." Shuhei said. Still, Ainosuke didn't say anything.

"It's okay..." Seira said.

"Well, uhm, we'll be going now..." Shuhei said, giving Seira a small bow.

"Ah, hai.." Seira said as she accompanied them to the door.

Before leaving, Ainosuke finally looked at her.

She really couldn't read the look he gave her.

It was as if he wanted to say a thousand words. There was an apologetic note, and there was something else... something she couldn't fanthom.

It made her want to call him back, to make him stay.

But she stayed still as Shuhei pulled Ainosuke away.

---

Seira returned to the living room, still deep in her thoughts.

"I missed your smile."

She looked up, surprised. "Chris..." She said.

"So was Masami-chan was right. You always smile when Tanaka-san is around." He said.

Seira smiled at that.

"I don't know why myself. He makes me feel at ease." She said.

Chris looked at her, pondering.

"You use to smile like that when Kaito is around." He said suddenly.

Seira's smile faded.

"It's not like that." She said quickly.

Another pause. Chris's stare was unnerving Seira.

"He... He also smiles the way Kaito used to smile at you." He said softly.

"I told you it's not like that. It's just..." She trailed off.

She looked at him. "It's just because we share similar pain. We can understand each other." Seira said softly.

Chris looked at her, and then sighed.

"Maybe." He finally said. "But what if---"

"I love Kaito." Seira said fiercely. "I still do."

Chris looked at her for a few more seconds and then nodded.

---

Ainosuke went straight inside his apartment.

Shuhei silently followed in.

"Ai-chan..."

"I'm kinda tired, Shuhei-kun..." He said, smiling wearily at Shuhei.

"Let's talk about it Ai-chan..." Shuhei said softly.

"Can we do that some other time?" Ainosuke asked, not looking at Shuhei.

"I need to talk about it!" Shuhei burst out. And as Ainosuke looked at him, he was surprised to see tears flowing from his eyes.

"Baka." He said, trying to laugh. "Why are you crying? You should be the one who's strong. Why are you like that? I'm the one who should be crying." He said with a false laugh.

"Then cry! Ai-chan no baka!" He said, tears still flowing freely. "I don't know what I should do! I want to help but you won't let me!"

Ainosuke sighed, looking down. "I can't be helped. It's too late."

"Don't say that!" Shuhei said, almost begging.

Ainosuke smiled sadly at him.

"Don't look at me like that either! You're not going anywhere! I wont let you!" He exclaimed.

"Shuhei-kun..."

"You're not just my best friend! We've passed that! I'm not losing my brother!"
