Why didn't I think of this before...
i use to have a 27 foot sailboat when i lived in annapolis. for 7 months i lived on it. i LOVED LOVED LOVED my sailboat. i sold it because we were moving to mass. and at the time i couldn't afford to keep it here. i want another boat!! i want another boat really badly. i pine away for another boat. i NEED another boat.
two years ago we visited provincetown and decided we look into buying a place there. something we could rent out a few weeks during the summer and would otherwise use for ourselves. then i lost my job. glad we didn't buy that place. at the end of spring i was looking at condos in florida. they are super cheap, $50k cheap. but none were on the beach and i didn't want to be driving distance from the beach i wanted to be walking distance from the beach. yes, i know i'm so damn picky.
yesterday we took the fast ferry to provincetown. it was awesome. so easy. the drive to ptown kinda sucks in the summer because EVERYONE and their g-d damned grandma are headed to the cape. it's really all massachusetts has going for it. as we were waiting to get back on the ferry i was thinking of how i could have it all. again, dreaming big. i realized that we should and could buy a boat and keep it in ptown and take the ferry there on weekends and instead of a house we'd stay in our condo on the water aka sailboat. brilliant. why didn't i think of this before? i checked out the cost of mooring a boat in ptown harbor. it's totally do able for the "season." and then we'd just pull it out and store it the rest of the un-sailable year. which is sadly way too long for my taste. i sailed in january once in annapolis. as long as the creek isn't froze you can sail there. not here! anyway, i started looking at boats. i love sailboats. we can totally pull this off. by the end of 2009 we plan to pay off one of our cars and i think by next spring we'll have enough put away to make a fat dent in a nice boat. i have no trouble financing the rest. at first i was thinking moderate sized. like 30 feet. but now i'm thinking go all out. 38-40 feet. sleeps 8. then we can have company at our condo on the water. wanna come visit next summer? of course buying this nice of a boat may mean putting off getting my new mercedes E350 but i can't live in a car for the summer!
