Why do bad plotlines happen to good shows?

Yeah, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but man, I used to love The Blacklist so much. The mystery, the intrigue, the acting...

But apparently the writers fell in love with a (formerly) side character, and from that point on, I've struggled to love the show quite as much. I absolutely don't ship Red and Liz (the two main characters), so that's not why I dislike Tom/Jacob so much. Even if Red isn't Liz's father, his actions toward her are paternal, and I'll always think so.

Tom, on the other hand? Nope, I'm not even going to expend the effort to describe why I hate him. Other fandom writers - and some show writers! - have already said enough. Suffice it to say, I'm not buying his "redemption", and I can't imagine a way in which I would.

I just... don't understand why writing Megan Boone's real-life pregnancy into the show had to be such a ridiculous rollercoaster of terrible. I mean, I wish they hadn't written it in at all, because I don't remember a show where having the lead be pregnant wasn't a terrible idea. But they could have done better than this. Megan Boone, as well as the character of Elizabeth Keen, deserved better than this.

My preferred ship deserved better than this, too, but that's not even my main complaint. And I can't even stop watching the show at this point, because I do still want to know where the heck they're going with this madness. Maybe there's a faint chance it will actually not be horrible? Yeah, probably not.

tv, the blacklist, ugh, fandom
