Dude. If you'd told me after the first few episodes of this show that I had something like this to look forward to, I would not have believed you ( Read more... )

I was constantly disappointed by the first season. I have watched only the first ep of the second season. I was underwhelmed and never came back. I just vastly prefer Arrow/Flash for my televised comic book superheroes. Is it really worth doing a marathon to catch up?

You mean you watched the whole first season, and then the S2 premier before stopping? Well, I was underwhelmed by much of the first season, and thought the show really picked up once it started dealing with Winter Soldier fallout. So that's where I'm coming from with my opinion here.

OTOH, my dad has been watching S1 from the beginning on Netflix, since he never saw it when it was airing, and I've found even the first few episodes (which I struggled with the most on my first watching) seem better marathonned (I guess that made-up verb will look wrong no matter how I spell the past tense), and better the second time around in general.

So, maybe you should try the marathon? Perhaps it's just not going to click for you, but I will say there is a major, major payoff in the S2 fall finale that goes back all the way to the beginning of the show. And some folks online who had felt negatively about something (being deliberately vague here) really appreciated the way that thing was dealt with. Plus, apart from all that reasoned argument: Kyle MacLachlan! I love him. And he's fantastic in the show.

Ooh, Kyle MacLachlan? I haven't gotten that far.

And yep, that's what I did. I watched the whole first season in relatively real time (never live but generally within a week of air date) then caught the premiere of S2 and never came back.

I do wonder if the binge format is better for this show. I realized that I can't stand The Mindy Project if I try to watch one by one. Yet I really enjoy it when I fall behind and watch four in a row. I wouldn't be surprised if AoS falls into that same category. I find myself being far more forgiving of nonsense if I know I don't have to wait any amount of time for the next dose. If that makes sense. Heh.

I'll keep you posted... :)

Indeed, the Kwisatz Haderach himself! Recurring, and each time he recurs, his character is more and more interesting.

Do let me know if it holds up better for you when binge-watched. :)
