The Legend of Korra

I don't know how many of you on my f-list know about/are fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender. And before you stop reading, I'll quickly say I mean the Nickelodeon TV show, not the terrible, awful, mess of a live-action movie that I won't be mentioning again. It's an animated show, on a kids' network, but it's really, really good. It contains actual intricate, sense-making, interesting plots, sympathetic characters who experience real growth - and cool powers. What's not to like? Plus, it's done airing and each episode is only 20-ish minutes, so it doesn't take long to finish it, which I just did a month or two ago for the first time.

And now there's the sequel, currently airing, The Legend of Korra. Wow. After ten episodes, I'm not sure but that it might be even better. This one I think is even more intense than its predecessor, and has some clear echoes of historical events that are downright chilling and really well done. Plus this time around, the main hero is a female, and I do love my strong, relatably flawed yet competent heroines.

So, if you, like me, probably never would have checked out an animated "kids" show without a recommendation, consider this yours - for both shows. This is quality television and storytelling.

the legend of korra, tv, the last airbender, powers, awesome, heroine addict
