I can't care about work.

I've been trying to get it done. I've had my textbook opened up for ages. I have a test on this material tomorrow afternoon but I can't seem to care.
It's hard to get it to matter when you know that as log as you pass there really isn't any significance to any of this. Stupid facts and random names, why would I ever need to be tested on this? When will i be in a situation where the knowledge of these things is critical AND I have no way to look them up? There will be no emergencies requiring this knowledge where I wouldn't have a book or computer with me.
Which brings me to an interesting point: has the advent of the internet and information at our fingertips rendered the old model of schooling irrelevant? Maybe testing me on my knowledge of the history of psychoanalytical theory (which is barely even used anymore) might have been ok, because back then you couldn't call up information instantly, so you needed as much as possible in your head.
This doesn't apply across the board. Medical students clearly need to be tested because that's a human life. That IS an emergency where a computer isn't helpful or available. Knowing the intricacies of Oedipal Complex by heart, however, mostly just leads to potentially interesting party conversation (depends on what circles you move in, I guess).

Wow. I'm an idiot. I spent all this time writing about not doing work when I could have been trying to work. Yay!
