Odd philosophical question for the day:
Say you were in a position to go back to the roots of a religion that has been around for a millennia or more, and examine practices that have changed over the years, and decide whether to go back to the way things were, keep going the way things are, or take another path. In that context, what would you think about animal sacrifice? Sacrifice was notes in the history of many modern faiths. Is the literal act, the killing of a living creature in a ritualized setting, important? Is, on the other hand, the point to destroy something that is valuable to you? In a modern context that could be a TV, computer, cell phone, pile of cash, etc… Though, driving an axe into a cell phone makes it useless, where driving an axe into a cow will leave you with some food. Or, is there another way to look at it? What do you all think?
