Character: Rikku
Series: Final Fantasy X
Version: very shortly after X. like. ten minutes after it.
Age: 15
Gender: female
Sexuality: straight
Appearance: A thin, slight girl of fifteen. Her blonde hair is held up in a messy ponytail, with two little braids at her neck that are decorated with colorful feathers. She wears an orange tank top and green ruffled short shorts, knee high boots, and a long glove on her left hand, matched by a smaller fingerless glove on the right. A pair of blue streamers trail from the back of her shirt, and she wears a pair of goggles around her neck. Her body language is peppy and bouncy, and she's usually seen wearing a playful grin.
Personality: Rikku is basically optimism distilled. She keeps up a positive and upbeat attitude and does her best to spread it around, although it's hard for her to hide when she's feeling bad herself. For good or for bad, she can't help wearing her feelings on her sleeve. Intensely loyal to her friends and family, she'll do anything in her power to keep them safe, even if it's dangerous. From her Al Bhed upbringing she's inherited a practical, forward-looking worldview that believes in free thought rather than dogmatic acceptance, and always keeps an eye on the future. Even if it doesn't work in the end, doing anything at all is better than sitting around doing nothing. Also, because she's spent her whole life being persecuted for her heritage, she tries extra hard to accept other people for who they are.
Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths: On a basic level, Rikku's quite intelligent, despite her often cutesy attitude. She's fluently bilingual and a quick study, besides which she has a certain gift for improvisation. Her real specialty is in alchemy, mixing stuff together to create potent buffs, powerful explosives, and so on. Given the right materials, she can also use this skill to customize weapons and armor. Although machina aren't her primary focus, she's also highly skilled in their use and repair. Her nimble fingers let her steal and pickpocket with ease, and even disable machina on the fly.
Her weapon is a claw worn on the right arm. It has a relatively low damage output, but she makes up for it with high agility and a wide array of damaging items. (Which ones she currently has with her will be entirely BS'ed.) If she has time, she can also tailor her weapons toward an elemental weakness or to cause status effects.
Weaknesses: Physically, she's fairly weak, and can neither dish out nor absorb a lot of damage. Her combat style depends heavily on mobility and evasion, so if her speed is compromised she's kind of fragile. Also, she has a paralyzing phobia of thunder and lightning.
History: Rikku was born into the Al Bhed diaspora, probably her world's most widely hated minority group. The Al Bhed were dispersed all throughout Spira, but at some point during her childhood, her father, Cid, brought them together and founded a new city on Bikanel Island for them to call Home. It's there that Rikku grew up. (Apparently her mother was killed by an out-of-control machina, but that doesn't seem to be strictly canon.)
In recent years she began travelling a lot to help out with her father's projects. Many of these involved salvaging ancient machina from the sea floor. On one such mission, though, she inadvertently fished up a cute but strange guy named Tidus, who claimed to be from the ruined city of Zanarkand. Since he was an excellent swimmer, she and her brother drafted him into the operation, but shortly afterwards, a close encounter with the monster known only as Sin separated them.
Salvage wasn't her dad's only project, of course; Cid always had several irons in the fire. Rikku also participated in an operation to kidnap summoners before they could complete their pilgrimage. It was for their own protection, of course, since even a successful summoner had to sacrifice their life to defeat Sin - and because Sin always came back anyway, the Al Bhed just saw it as a senseless waste of summoners' lives. For Rikku, though, it was also personal. Her cousin Yuna had recently become a summoner herself, and Rikku refused to stand by and let her cousin die. She tried to kidnap Yuna while she and her guardians were crossing the Moonflow, but was surprised to see none other than Tidus following her underwater (and breaking her machina). He was also the first to find her when she washed ashore, and that's when she discovered he was one of Yuna's guardians. After talking it over with Yuna and Lulu, Rikku became her cousin's guardian as well, figuring that was the best way to protect her right now.
As they traveled northwards toward Zanarkand, Rikku made repeated attempts to talk Yuna out of throwing her life away for the pilgrimage. Even so, though, she followed her cousin through thick and thin, and she couldn't deny that Sin had to get gotten rid of somehow. If there was a way to do it without the Final Summoning - well, that'd be perfect, wouldn't it? After she told Tidus about the summoners' fate, he joined her in trying to work out a solution, but there really weren't a whole lot of options. After all, if there was another way, wouldn't someone have figured it out in the last thousand years?
So, it was much to her relief that when they did finally reach Zanarkand, Yuna chose to refuse the Final Aeon and find another way to defeat Sin. And with the help of Cid's airship, all of the guardians, and a choir of everyone in Spira, they managed to bust a hole into Sin itself and kill the entity controlling it, Yu Yevon, with a Phoenix Down. Then Yuna performed a sending on all the Fayth so their spirits could finally rest in the Farplane, but the downside was, because Tidus was just a part of the Fayth's dream, this also meant he would no longer exist. It was a bittersweet goodbye for everyone, and Rikku optimistically shouted that they'd see him again.
After that, Rikku returned with Yuna and the others to Luca, where they officially announced Sin's demise and the beginning of the Eternal Calm. But it wasn't long after that speech that she found herself somewhere else altogether...
