Headcanon

So, as I've been playing, I've discovered one of those things -- not tripping points, exactly, 'cause I haven't felt tripped up or anything, but those things where interactions in camp just inherently differ from interactions in canon in a way that I didn't expect.

Mostly, in this case, it's that people are interested in Sakubo's real life in a way that you just don't get in-game aside from Haseo emailing them -- there's a lot of standard internet "don't pry until they volunteer" stuff in canon, so you hear about their lives as backstory/counterpoint when the 'plot' is in the game. As a result, I'm finding myself drawing on headcanon here and there.

And you know, I'm cool with this. I have strong headcanon thoughts, I find them fun, I want to play with them! And every time I have, it's based on something in one of the emails or fanguides or something, so I have fair confidence in it.

But since it isn't Strict Canon in a lot of cases, I figured I'd toss some of it up here in this post so that if people who knew the canon disagreed or whatever and wanted to talk to me about it, I could hear it enough in advance to change early instead of having to retcon later. ♥

How long Saku's been with Bo
I'm guessing since he was very young, maybe four or five. Maybe younger. They act as if they've been together their whole life, claim to have the same birthday, etc, so I'm guessing Iori fractured very young.

Do people in the 'real world' know Iori has multiple personalities?
Although there's very little in canon that actually says one way or the other, a couple of hints make me go with a 'yes'. The first is the fact that Saku refers to 'mom' chastizing her for not being polite -- the mom might be hella neglectful but if she actively talks down to Saku (as Saku claims in email), then I assume she knows Saku exists. I just doubt she thinks of Saku as a person, only as a manifestation of Bo's mental illness. Likewise, given the fact that Saku says people bully Bo all the time, and both Saku and Bo say that Bo has no friends in real life at all, I'm guessing it's more than just "Bo's the chronically ill kid who misses a lot of school" or "Bo's clumsy" as they both outright say -- at that degree of separation, I'm gonna go ahead and run with an assumption that it got out that Bo's mentally ill. Especially because Saku also implies that she's been trying to defend Bo from getting bullied at school. Also, given Bo's massive amounts of doctor visits, I imagine he's been diagnosed.

What's with all the doctor visits, anyway?
Well, given that Bo's been horribly sickly since he was a little kid and misses school a lot and being in bed with fevers for a week is a totally normal thing for him, I imagine that during worse bents and new things, he gets run in to see the doctor. We know his mom prefers to let him just cope with it, but there'll always be worse periods or new developments, and given how often he's sick... yeah.

Oooh, he's got multiple personalities, must be some kind of horrible trauma!
Nah, .hack's good about ...normalish backstories that just lead to a world of hurt anyway. I think it was all pretty much just a combination of being the sick kid who couldn't keep friends and the verbal abuse/abuse through neglect at home, he couldn't handle it. Saku doesn't say she was born because of any physical abuse -- she says she was born because Bo was silently crying all the time.

Yeah idk, I'll add more to this post as it comes up in camp and stuff o/

Also, I might as well do it here -- if anybody has any questions about why Saku or Bo do or say something, or why they're lying or not lying, or etc etc, feel free to ask. I love to essay! I WANT TO ESSAY BACK AT YOU ♥
