as many of you know, my mother is currently stationed out of Bangkok, Thailand, where the military recently overthrew the primeminister. this sounds worse than it is. not a shot has been fired, there is no opposition to the coup because the country has more or less been ruled by the military for the last 50 years anyway. the coup was all but sanctioned by the king who is loved by the thai people to the point of absurdity. no really, they LOVE him. the military overthrew the primeminister becasue he was corrupt and overly gready, and he sabotaged an election back in may. his family owed the televison and radio networks there and because he owned much of the stock, the family sold the firm to singapore to the tune of $2 billion. it's more complicated than that, but that's all the information i have off the top of my head.
my mother is safe, she's fine. she was in Dili, East Timor when the coup took place. which is odd that people were concerned about her being in bangkok when a peaceful day in Dili is not only less common, but also more dangerous than a violent one in bangkok. she's back in bangkok now, she usually checks in by email aroun 21:30 Eastern Time, which she did tonight and i have now passed along to you all.
nobody asked me, but i figured i'd tell you anyway.
