Game of Thrones, movies

It's rained a couple of afternoons here in cool, lovely central Maine, so we've been doing a lot of reading and we've been to see "Captain America" and "Cowboys and Aliens".

Song of Dragons: I've been reading the Game of Thrones series for a long time and waited and waited for this sequel. I'll not do any spoilers, but my general comment is that while engrossing, this book is a little more choppy than previous ones in the series and he leaves even more plot threads dangling than before, if that's possible. As much as I love the characters, especially Aryn, Tyrion and Dany, I was left frustrated since I know it may be many years before we see another book. The HBO series is actually more satisfying since there is some resolution built into the concatenated and tightened up (but still complex) plot lines. I highly recommend the series, which continues in 2012. Postscript: When is he actually going to *do* something with the whole direwolf portion of the plot line??

Captain America: Saw it in 3D and enjoyed it a lot. Loved the remarkable way they handled the same actor transitioning to his new "CA" persona. Loved the female lead, and I always adore Tommy Lee Jones. And can we say... sequel? :)

Cowboys and Aliens: Fun, pass-the-torch adventure story. Really silly if you thought about it too hard, but I tried not to. I wish Daniel Craig interested me more as a hero, but he was appropriately stoic and tough. He's kind of a little guy though, and I like my heroes to be big, lanky ah-shucks kinda guys (preferably dark and broody). I know, corny, but there it is. Harrison Ford was much more the type I go for, and he's still a great presence on screen.
