First post in two months. Don't know why, but I haven't really felt like writing anything, despite everything thats been going on. This may be a long one, so I'll cut it for convenience.
School has been going fairly well so far. Got an A- in a project I threw together at the last minute, and in which I expected maybe a B- or worse. Haven't really had any other marks back this semester, but the classes are, for the most part, interesting. I have one night class, Causes of War, that is particularly interesting. Its taught by a professor who I believe is of Eastern European descent (heavyish accent). A lot of people seem not to like him, but I think he's fantastic.
However, this coming week is hell week as far as school is concerned for me. For Monday, I have to do a presentation on my major research project for my Pol Sci seminar. I also have to bring a summary/questions from two chapters of the textbook for exam review. Tuesday I have a midterm in my Causes of War class. Wednesday I have a major assignment from my Stats class due. Friday I have a rough draft of a major research essay for my History seminar. At least once I finish this week, I'll have at least half of the work for this semester finished. After that there will only be a couple of essays and whatnot to do (excluding exams).
The other major event coming up is the Canadian International Model UN (CANIMUN) that I am attending in Ottawa. The conference is from March 7-10, but I'll be gone from March 6-11. It's pretty much all covered except for meals. There's twelve of us from McMaster going, representing the UK. My committee is the UN Committee on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD). This wasn't one of my first choices. Our topics are "Gender, Science and Technology" and "The Digital Divide". Although I've written a position paper for this already, I still need to do a whole bunch of research for it. Ah well, thats for next weekend.
Last week, I saw Damon's play here at Mac. I thought it was particuarily well done, and was very funny. It was also a good approach to Hamilton, and has definite appeal here in the city. Took the bus home to London the next day, and spent the next couple days doing nothing at all (which is good, cause thats what I planned to do). On Sunday I saw Bon Cop Bad Cop at Mikes. Good film, I thought. Tuesday a few of us went to see Pan's Labyrinth at Rainbow. That was an amazing piece of film. Very, very well done. Solid plot, and I loved how the myth elements were woven into the historical parts of the film. It did not shy away from violence in the slightest, and some parts were almost too much to take. Afterwards we just went to the Poachers Arms for a few drinks, and then I came back to Hamilton on Wednesday.
Recently I've been watching Muppet Show clips on Youtube. I forgot how sweet that show was, and I haven't seen it in ages. Even though its decades old by this point, it is still awesome. It is also far more mature than I remembered it being. So many of the songs and sketches have either subtle mature themes, or sometimes overt ones (such as Peter Sellers singing about "Cigarettes, Whisky, and Wild, Wild Women". Not quite what you might expect for a children's show.
