Well, I've just witnessed another relationship go down in flames (not one of my own, thank God...). When these things happen the usual philosophical questions tend to pop up, so why fight it:

Is love 'real', or is it just some chemical thing humans go through ( Read more... )

*hugs muchly* Poor UM...

Each person has their own ideas on the subjects you mentioned. No one knows the answer for certain I'm affraid, but I can tell you how I see things...

Love is quite real. It has some to do with chemicals, such as the pheramones people give off to attract the one they love, but it has more to do with looking at someone and just knowing you want to spend the rest of your life with that person. Its a feeling, an emotion. Of course, like most things, feelings can change. Its not uncommon for people to fall out of love.

True love is in the eye of the beholder, just like all truths. What is true love to one may seem like infatuation or lust to another. No one is wrong in how they feel, and no one can tell you what to feel.

I believe in soul mates. I hold firm to the idea that we are each born with 'half a soul' if you will, that can only be completed when we find the one with our other half inside them. Are there more than one possible match? Of course.

Sex is the physical act of satisfying a momentary need or desire. Sex is the actions that give you that one burst of sensory brightness and cause bliss. Sex is not love. If sex were love, then people who have one night stands would be 'in love' with the one they never call the next day...

Love is being bonded mind, body, and soul with someone, not just body. That's why people call it 'making love' rather than sex. Making love is joining with someone that you love, trust, and honor, joining on every plane of existance. Its a beautiful thing.

And, note, my opinions have no gender definitions. Love knows no boundaries.

*hugs her back*

I appreciate the kind words An, but thankfully it wasn't the two people I think you're thinking of. ^^;; These two are just some acquaintances of mine; I've got nothing whatsoever to do with this one (again, thank God for that).

By the way, this is unrelated, but the post will be a little later than I'd figured; I was out all night. ^_^;;
