willowfaerie2 gave me these 5 words :D
Citadel - My town's citadel is natievly called "Kale". It was built in the VI century in Byzantine time. It was restored a couple of years ago and a big part of it is now off limits because of archeological escapades. I used to go there when I was little, with my grandfather and we’d walk there for hours. The old Turkish bazaar is in its foothold. It’s a place full of soul and tradition and in the last few years the frequency of young people’s visit has increased as there are now a lot of bars and small rock clubs in that area. The last time I visited Kale was last year when I went to see Gjorgi Sarevski and TB Traceri on stage during Beer land.
Skopje - My hometown; the place where I’ve spent all my short young life. It’s a beautiful place to be in, but needs a lot of improvements, like more green places where we can spend our free time. It was recently pronounced the most polluted city in the world. What we were breathing for the last few days was anything but air. Now that there’s wind and a bit of rain the air is cleaner.
A lot of new stuff is being built now in my town. Like the fountain “Warrior on a horse” that was place in the center of our biggest square, square “Macedonia”. I was against it at first because it seem too big and unnecessary, but now that it’s been set up it looks great. A lot of other monuments have been built to such as those of Goce Delcev, King Samoil, Metodija Andonov Cento etc. Some of them are a bit over the top and out of place where they have been put.
It’s also the cultural center of Macedonia. The best theaters are here; especially MNT (Macedonian National Theater) and Dramski Teatar (Drama Theater). MNT is right next to my school and I go there often. Soon the whole theater will be moved to the new theater buliding across Vardar. The whole ensemble and that work there are the best there can be, although Dramski is quite good too. For about a year MNT has had a new manager, Dejan Lilic and has improved greatly. The crew of “Figaro’s Wedding” is now in Georgia, visiting the director of the play and performing it twice. Last show is today. Tomorrow they’ll finally be home.
Prince Marko - Marko Mrnjavčević - In our culture he is called King Marco. :D He is a part of many epic poems and legends and is awarded great strength and intellect. He was the son of Volaksin and nephew of Uglesha, who were rulers in the Macedonian land. Since it was under Ottoman ruling, it was divided into sectors and each had a different leader. Marco took the throne after his father’s and uncle’s death in the battle of Maritsa. He was very kind and helpful to the Macedonian people and even became a vassal of the Ottoman emperor to protect them. Marko lost his life in the Battle of Rovine fighting for the Ottoman empire.
Vampire - When I see this word I immediately think: ROBERT! LOL! It’s not that Cullen made my love him, but the entire buzz around BD has been messing with my mind this past month or so. All those sexy promo pictures are definitely not good for me. But to get on a bit more serious side, vampires remind me of strong and vicious creatures that stop at nothing to get what they desire. One of my favorite real vampire (since Twilight is modern vampire LOL!) movies is “Interview with the Vampire”. Have to love: “I will give you the choice I never had!”
Paeonia - Had to brush up my knowledge to answer this one. We learned these tribes in first or second year and I had such a tough time remembering them all. There were more Paeonian tribes and they inhabited the biggest part of Macedonia and also parts of today’s Bulgaria and Greece. It is presumed that they were Thracian. They were a strong force in their time and had a great dynasty. They frequently attacked the ancient Macedonians and it was Filip II, one of our most famous kings, stopped those raids and made Paeonia semi-autonomous. Later during Alexander the Great’s time a Paeonian contingent was attached to his army.
