The day before Thaipusam

Feb 01, 2007 02:21

Dear flist,
As promised, I had taken a few photos. Bear with me as I navigate around this linking jargon. The links will take you to an external page, i.e. photobucket and also opens up in a new page. It might be a bit big, so it's not dial-up friendly. So until I am able to adjust the size of the photo, don't click on it if your speed is slow. Took me quite some time to get into the page. This is the day before Thaipusam - actual day is 1st Feb 2007.

The normally busy road filled with cars is now filled with people and stalls on the sides. These stalls are sponsored by companies or individuals, oft times, it's the companies. Those who handle the stalls, are voluntarily doing it. They provide refreshments to devotees or even tourists. If you are at specific stalls at specific time, like lunch, you get free food. Ah yes, all vegetarians and mostly curries. Believe me when I said it's very filling. No?

A few devotees carrying the kavadi. They are not just standing there, they are dancing, sorry I can't put videos up.

Oops, this is the first time I see this one, a new dance perhaps? Or it was around ages ago but just not being danced?

One of my favourite, I call it sticks dance, they might have a proper name for it, but I don't know.

Opps! I was busy throwing those coconuts that I didn't have the time to take a photo up close. Anyways, it would be dangerous to as coconuts thrown could come your way unsuspectingly!

The carriage bearing the Hindu god is incoming, everyone clear off the path, you don't want to be bored down by the bulls, do you?

Sorry, photo's a bit skewered, wanted to take the carriage plus the bulls. No kidding, they are real!

Side view of the carriage.

As an end note, they (the devotees) are still outside there, walking, in the dark! The music is still going on, and it's 2.30am! *gasp* What am I doing up so late? :p Watching Nigella Bites... righto, I'm off to sleep or I can't go walking tomorrow or wakes up with a blinding headache on top of blaring music... *gawds*
