so, the weekend was indeed crazy. i hung out at jon's with his roommates until michele, roberto, alessia, pasquale, and gennaro arrived... then we took the redline over to downtown where we waited for a couple ? of hours for luigi. except that it was supposed to be one of those any-minute-now kinda things...haha oh yes. waiting.
so we walked over (and i in blistering feet, fuckin shoes! but it's okay, i definitely took them off to acquire strange diseases when we got to the club) to this club called funk where we danced til 5. i felt like i was studying abroad and somewhere bc (1) normally i would never spend an exorbitant amount of money on going out and buying expensive drinks and (2) i have never been over 21, in chicago, able to go out. it was definitely an experience... maybe i'd do it again but damn that shit is pricey. actually, i'd probably go to another club, one that i felt more comfortable in. like, it was fine, no problem... but the hetero-vibe was too much if that makes sense. i think i prefer a little more ambiguity and gender openness in my clubs, or maybe it's bc the first dance clubs i went to and loved were gay discos in brazil. hahah that sentence makes my life sound crazy.
then, we crashed at jon's around 6(where there was some sleeping arrangement confusion)... michele, roberto and i woke up early (read: 10) to go see the wolfgang tillmans exhibit at the MCA. they were also interested in the warhol exhibit, and i was looking forward to the now-disappointing catherine opie photos. if you're around chicago, see the wolfgang tillmans show at the MCA give it a chance. really. i don't want to build it up too much, so that's all i have to say on that matter.
hmm... so then we went to the MCA where the sweethearts bought anna a graduation gift (a pop art watch and also a solar-sensor dancing plant). made it from downtown to the north side again, realized that ari (one of jon's roommates) and the rest of the crew were still hanging out at the b'hai temple, and looked for the 24-hour Deluxe diner... which apparently is far, far, far on foot from clark and touhy. we ended up at a mexican fruteria instead after a long walk and drank coffee and talked. it was good times. then we walked back to jon's, threw rocks at the window futilely, and laid around on the lawn and talked.
finally, the rest of them arrived and we went over to anna's in st. charles. despite the excruciatingly sluggish traffic, shitty directions from mapquest (which i realized as soon as we started following them... but it was too late to change routes) and the warm bodies overstuffing the car, the hour and a half went by okay. everyone was just a little exhausted and quietly, though mildly, cranky.
the barbeque was nice and a good time. we played bags, i learned scopa, ate good food and met anna's family. i left with paul, veronica and ian around 930 or so, we made a pit stop in la grange, and pretty much was passed-the-fuck-out for the rest of the ride.
now! i go back to skokie to get my HUGE snaggletooth fixed. basically, there's a monstrous hunka tooth missing from my chomper. maybe i should take some pictures before it's filled in again... the next entry i might explain some of of these mysterious dental debacles but for now, i think i'll catch the end of the ukraine vs saudi arabia game.
with love,
ros
p.s. possibly the worst weekend ever to look like a snaggletoothed dirty hippie/hick. the end.
p.p.s. my foot is bleeding.
