The rain color of the rural midwest,
the sky a soaked and sorry shade of grey.
Nothing but rain and morning fog
making even the leafy green of trees
turn dull and shadowy.
Red brick going mad against the summer
onslaught of raindrops.
Humidity pentrates into your pores,
puddles on flat ground
from two weeks of every day rain.
The ground doesn't dry,
the potted plants drown.
A loud clatter of water on slate,
pavement, cars.
The soft static of the storm on the rooftop,
a rain made for kids in summer.
