I DID IT I LEFT THE FLOWERS AND THE CARD OUTSIDE THE SINGER'S DOOR! (^___^) I know he's only staying for one more day, but hopefully the flowers will brighten up his room for a short time anyway. Then, if he leaves them behind (which I'm sure he will because who travels with a plant?), I am totally taking them since I'm set to deep clean that apartment once he leaves, and then they will brighten my apartment!

Here's a picture:

And what I wrote in the card:

Mr. Rosel,

Your other half mentioned during one of our many pleasant conversations that you’re here to perform in The Magic Flute. I am absolutely over the moon to see the show live for the first time at tomorrow’s matinee! The Magic Flute sparked my lifelong love for opera; I watched my VHS copy over and over again as a child, “singing along” despite not speaking a word of German. Ultimately, mimicking the Queen of the Night aria at age seven inspired me to study voice myself.

I am so excited to see you perform tomorrow! If I get the chance, I will certainly ask you for an autograph. Otherwise, break a leg tomorrow, toi toi toi, and I promise I’ll try not to sing along from the audience. :)

I hope you’ve enjoyed your stay here at the St. John’s and that you’ll return in the future!

Left my unit number as well in case idk he decides to slip me an autograph under my door or something. XD He seems kinda shy, so hopefully the gesture will seem thoughtful and not creepy. For the curious, it's this singer who's staying in our building.

I wasn't kidding that singing along to this opera is what pretty much determined I'd develop a strong singing voice. I spent over half my life training my voice after falling in love with this opera, which according to my mother I saw on PBS and then my dad bought me a copy on video. I ended up going the musical theatre route myself, though during high school I almost sang the Queen of the Night aria for my final in IB Music. My soprano isn't quite that powerful anymore, but I'm proud to know that I've got the voice and I can easily stretch my range up to that point with a regular training. On the other hand, it's kind of horrifying to think of seven-year-old me trying to hit those particular notes... My poor parents! I imagine I must have sounded something like this:

Yes, that is the actual aria. :'D

Going to go plan my outfit for the opera tomorrow. I'm so excited I could cry, and I probably will during the show! This entry was originally posted at http://mabaliciousness.dreamwidth.org/5164.html. Please comment there using OpenID.
