It's the first day of 2022, have a summary of fic wot I wrote in 2021.
All of this is The Sentinel except for the one lonely Magnus Archives story as noted.
Time to Make a Change 12,000 words. My Secret Santa story for Sullen Dragon. The title is a subversion of the song Father and Son by Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, where the original line is "It's not time to make etc etc" This was one of the trickier title finding jobs this year. This is my 'who is Blair's father' story, with the kitchen sink of the series finale thrown in too.
Self Determination, Highly Prized 2,100 words, The Magnus Archives. My Spook-Me story and my least loved by readers story this year, which I entirely understand because it's gen, features a polarizing character and has canonical but utterly downer tags. Still, with three kudos and a bookmark to 21 hits, it has a cracking ratio, yes? A story in two parts, from the pov of Melanie King's father, and then from the pov of Melanie herself. Mind the tags on this one.
In a Spin - 891 words and still not king, finished. Written to a theme, and I know what to do with the next chapter which is definitely about SenToo because I am nothing if not predictable. I just have to actually do it.
Half at One Another's Throats, 267 words - a ficlet featuring Jim's parents discussing the events of Remembrance. ee cummings' Coastal Shelf performs yeoman service once more for the title.
Shared Space 2500 words. This year's surprise break-out hit - a little comparison of Carolyn and Jim, and Blair and Jim, at home in the loft.
Hard Work 412 words. A ficlet about Jim performing CPR at the fountain. Oh look, it's a Sentoo story.
Come Running 2900 words. Oh look, it's a mystical blue jungle story. Jim follows a wolf in an apparently infinite forest.
Candy Sweet, 1100 words. An actual Valentines Day story.
Used to Be So Handsome and Casual 14,700 words. The working title was 'the non-con mind control fic of doom', which sums things up tidily. Jim rapes Blair in a dissociated state, and then there are consequences and discoveries and more consequences. Mind the warnings on this one too.
I'd been writing Handsome and Casual since 2019, so my total of actual written words for 2021 is around 27,200. It's not that much but it's more than last year, so hoorah for that.
Considering my old WIPs for the coming year, I have Hell of an Appetite, (third big Hell of a Town story) a sequel to Chrysalis, and an angsty AU springing off from Remembrance (Aaron Foster does actually kill William Ellison). elaine is quite keen on my finishing up HoaA - so am I but it requires case story style plotting - aarrgghh. Still, I can let it percolate.
