The Great Fic Round-Up Post of 2015

Dec 29, 2015 09:11

This year I signed up to a writing comm once more and this time I actually reached my modest goal of writing (not necessarily posting) 75,000 words. Last year I only managed about 45,000 words so this year is a big improvement.

The improvement consists of:

Reverently and Discreetly 21 204 words

The Sentinel, slash. I have a twisty relationship with the compulsion element in a lot of bonding fics, and in this 'what if there was a canon bonding scenario' fic, I play with the trope and my need for people to have some sort of choice, damnit. And given that lots of people liked this one - it's my most kudosed fic by far - I guess I did something right.

The House on Rochester Street 6640 words

The Sentinel, gen. I read (and reread) a lot of old classic horror stories by people like M R James, Algernon Blackwood and John Collier, and this is me writing your bog-standard haunted house story, based on PattRose's visuals for the minibang this year.

Pursuing Enquiries 1000 words

Crossover between TS, The Professionals, Maiden Rose and Starsky and Hutch. Slash. Like the tags on AO3 say, self-indulgent nonsense. Bodie and Doyle ask the guys from the other canons whether it's good or bad that I'm writing them a longer story.

Nobody Knows Me at Home Any More 20866 words

The Professionals, slash. This is that longer story that I wrote for Bodie and Doyle. Slice of life for the lads, given that slice of life for these boys involves action and casework as well as the quieter moments.

The Grand Tableau 20 956 words

The Sentinel, slash. And I thought that Reverently and Discreetly was idfic. Ha! If you're able to see my filtered posts you probably know what I'm working out here. Doom, gloom and despair abound in this horror-based death story. If you'd told me any time before I wrote this that I would expend this amount of effort on a story where I kill off one character and make the other one utterly miserable I would have laughed in your face. In your face, I say.

The Ellison Christmas 3426 words

The Sentinel, gen. I didn't know who I was writing for, but this ended up being for Unbelievable2 for the TS Secret Santa. It's the first Christmas after the episode His Brother's Keeper and Jim is trying to get organised. I cunningly used USA spellings in my Secret Santa posting and I'm sure fooled absolutely no-one...

This adds up to about 74,100 words, with the balance unfinished fic, including a Maiden Rose story. I did a few Fandom Grammar posts earlier in the year too. I have decided to lift my game to a goal of 100,000 words for 2016. We shall see.
