The Week That Was, The Weekend That Will Be.
So this week one of my bosses left (he was posting out next week anyway) but rather than hear it from my boss I heard it from the US Air Force Attache who called to wish him luck on his earlier than planned flight home. I went to my secondary boss (who i haven't given a name yet i'll call him Cool Boss) and asked why this was being said and was told that Boss 1 was leaving and he was supposed to have told me that yesterday.
It's funny he was a decent enough boss but i got the feeling the entire time i was there that i was "the help" whereas Cool Boss made me feel part of the team. But his replacement who I will be calling Big Boss 1.5 (because he's the head of the section and he's like 7" tall and he just towers over me) seems awesome. I mean the previous boss wouldn't bother telling me anything... From Big Boss 1.5 I get a daily schedule brief, a weekly meeting with him and Cool Boss to plan events for the week, he stops by my desk and tells me when he's leaving the office and even speaks to me on his way out the door. It's weird... I mean it's awesome but it's weird.
So beyond work I went and saw Uh Huh Her who were just brilliant and went and watched the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Trafalger Square. Apparently the tradition since the end of WW2 is that the tree is always a gift from Norway to thank England for their help during the war. So it's a fairly big deal with some diplomats and random politicians there to give speeches. I could've done without the drizzle but the carols and watching the lights turn on was kinda cool.
So this weekend should be quiet. The science PA who i will be calling Hillsong girl cause she's been telling me how inspirational it is (i bit my tongue and changed the subject) has invited me out tomorrow. Apparently she knows a cool hairdresser and i really need my haircut so that will be happening and then we are going to some Christmas concert tomorrow night. She's Ecuadorian (i know i spelt that really wrong but it's 12:45 and i can't be bothered changing it) so apparently it's gonna have a big Latin American thing so it could be different and cool. It could also be filled with Hillsongers trying to convert me but i'm gonna ignore that.
The rest of the plan for the weekend is to finish the last of my Christmas stuff. Everything has been bought but there are a couple of things that need to be made (mainly DVD's) and everything needs to be wrapped and sent ASAP. So everything will have to be done by Monday. I need to clean my room (which isn't that messy but i'm trying to make an effort here to keep it spotless. I need to buy random household stuff that i forget about everytime i go shopping cause it's not cool stuff that i can play with. I really need to do several loads of washing. I need to go and pick up two packages at the post office (hopefully one will be Spooks). Most importantly i need to write a couple of letters home for Christmas and also set up my camera to record a video message to my family for Christmas Day that i'll turn into a DVD. Yeah that could be lame but it's my first Christmas away from my family and from the sound of things my mother is taking it pretty hard so hopefully this will help.
