The Good Date (tm)

Nov 12, 2004 02:01

Welcome, all you regulars, to Maartje`s Nights Out Adventures. You already witnessed Maartje meeting someone who wasn`t very good at smoothly handling a first date, committing no-noes like complaining about the ex, spending a little too much thought on money-issues and generally behaving slightly childish, tonight on the other hand was the night for the Genuinely Very Good Date (tm).

I met up with a guy I had known about through some website, and after a bit of messaging and a bit of chat over MSN, we decided it might be a nice idea to meet up. I spontaneously suggested to go see Bridget Jones 2 tonight, it being the first day in theatres and all, and he accepted. We agreed to go to the smaller cinema of Rotterdam, Cinerama, which has bigger seats and has a much warmer atmosphere than the big cinema that reminds me of an entertainment factory sometimes. I felt more like small scaled, plus, I half expected the other cinema to be filled to the brim with people. This little cinema had much less visitors. There were plenty of empty seats even. And it had a good lounge where I got to spend 30 minutes to get a first impression of Richard.

When I walked into the lounge I found him already there, with my ticket. I asked him if I should pay it back, still thinking about that dreadful other date I had had with someone else where money seemed to be the main concern, but he smiled and told me that if I really wanted to do something back, maybe I could buy popcorn. Point one for him.

He had a few good stories to tell and listened to mine. Point two for him.

He liked the movie as much as I did. Point three for him.

Afterwards, we went out for icecreams. We both decided on the warm brownie with soft ice. Bingo. We had dessert-compatibility.

Now, this might sound weird, but dessert compatibility is a superstition of mine. I like to think that I will recognize a good guy by his taste in desserts. This man hmm`ed at the same time as me when Ben and Jerry`s came up during the movie.

Having finished and having to leave the Burger Kind where we bought the ice cream, we dawdled a little, and agreed soon that going to the Irish Pub near the cinema was a pretty good idea. We had a really good time.

We had to eventually say goodbye, so we did. I kissed him on the cheek, still a little reserved. But if things look like this some other time, who knows ;-)

And no dirty talking, the whole night. It was amazing.

To summarize, he was charming, laid back, kind, mature and interesting. If I can, I`ll sure repeat it. The only thing I really have to think about is his age. He is 29 years old. And I am still struggling with loyalties a little. On the other hand, nothing is carved in stone yet, it might all just fall into place in a while.

love
