After lots of deliberation, I bought a new printer. I wanted one that could print double sided, but didn't like what I saw in the reviews, so in the end I ended up without duplex capability.
Back on Windows, you could tell the printer driver to print the Odd Pages, then toss the output back in the paper tray upside down, print the Even Pages, and get 2-sided output without too much effort.
Now I'm printing a PDF using Preview.app on Mac OS 10.5.2. I don't see any such option that enables this. Am I missing something? Is the printing infrastructure on the Mac really so retarded? (Right, simple is user friendly, suuuuure.)
Between this, the random full system crashes, and the UI issues with Spaces, I'm less enchanted with my Mac this week.
