I think you are totally correct about this. But a little 2 dimensional. The US doesn't just hand out green cards to anyone. I married an American and it wasn't even simple for ME to get a damn green card. You can't just decide you want to live in the United States and the government will send you forms. You have to marry an American citizen or be sponsored by a company or something along those lines. And most illegals I don't think have those sort of methods available to them. And they want a better life. So illegal entry for them might be their only hope of it. I'm not saying it's right - I know the expense and crap I had to endure to get here legally, I can only imagine how it must be for them. BUt you are totally right, they're here illegally they can't really expect the law to make exceptions for them. If they receive any amnesty it should be because the gov. recognizes their contribution to our economy and is willing to commemorate it by offering them a deal. No way should they just be handed legal residency or it negates what people like myself and millions of other have had to go through every year here and elsewhere around the world.
oh believe me, I totally agree with you! It all comes down to individual situations and so on. I'm not against the sending money home thing, after all that's why many come here anyway, but again it's dependent on situation.
Hell I got married eight years ago now and I STILL have to do INS stuff here and there and I HAVE a green card. So I'd feel pretty annoyed if people can just show up illegally and be handed what I have worked and paid for. But I don't think that will ever happen.
Like I said, I hope they are offered some incentive conducive to them being able to stay productively for both parties!
